Grams to ml converter

1 g of water is 1 ml. Everything else is lighter or heavier than water, so the answer depends on the ingredient: 100 g of milk is about 97 ml, oil 109 ml, sugar 118 ml, flour 189 ml, honey 70 ml. Pick the ingredient and type the grams.

Dry ingredients are spooned into the cup and levelled. Scooped straight from the bag, flour can weigh up to 20% more — for baking, a scale is the safest bet.

How to convert grams to ml:

  1. Pick the ingredient

grams to ml only works per ingredient — a gram of flour takes up twice the room of a gram of water.

  2. Type the grams

or switch to ml to go the other way, from a measuring jug to the scale.

  3. Read off ml

plus cups and spoons, for recipes written in either.

Questions:

Is 1 gram equal to 1 ml?
Only for water (and, near enough, milk and cream). Oil is lighter: 100 g is about 109 ml. Honey is heavier: 100 g is about 70 ml. Flour and sugar are full of air, so 100 g of flour fills about 189 ml.
How many ml is 100 g?
Water 100 ml, milk 97 ml, heavy cream 99 ml, vegetable oil 109 ml, butter 104 ml, sugar 118 ml, flour 189 ml, honey 70 ml. The table below has all 35 ingredients.
How many grams is 250 ml of milk?
About 259 g. 250 ml of water is 250 g, of oil about 230 g, of flour about 132 g.
How do I convert ml to grams?
Multiply the ml by the ingredient's density: about 1 for water, 1.04 for milk, 0.92 for oil, 1.44 for honey, 0.53 for flour. Or switch the converter to ml.
Why weigh rather than measure in ml?
A jug is fine for liquids. For flour, sugar and cocoa, how you fill it changes the amount by 20% or more; a scale gives the same result every time.
