What is 425 °F in Celsius?
425 °F is 218 °C, so set the oven to 220 °C — or 200 °C if it’s a fan (convection) oven. That’s gas mark 7; in an air fryer, about 400 °F (205 °C).

Fan (convection) ovens cook hotter, so set them about 20 °C lower (25 °F in American recipes). Every oven runs a little differently — an oven thermometer shows the real temperature.
Good to know:
- 425 °F is for a fast, hot bake: biscuits, sheet-pan pizza, crispy potatoes and Brussels sprouts, and the first stage of a pie crust.
- Give the oven 15–20 minutes to preheat. Many ovens beep before the walls are fully hot, and a high-heat bake suffers most.
- In an air fryer, about 400 °F — the top setting on most models. Chicken wings take about 20–25 minutes there, shaken halfway.

Questions:
- How long to bake chicken wings at 425 °F?
- 40–50 minutes on a rack, flipped halfway, until crisp. Tossing them in a little baking powder (not soda) first crisps the skin.
- How long to roast a whole chicken at 425 °F?
- About 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes for a 4–5 lb bird, until the thigh reads 165 °F. Rest it 10 minutes before carving.
- Is 425 °F too hot for cookies?
- For most cookies, yes: the edges burn before the middle sets. Keep them at 350–375 °F; 425 °F is for biscuits, scones and pizza.
