What is 220 °C in Fahrenheit?
220 °C is 428 °F, so set a US oven to 425 °F. In a fan (convection) oven use 200 °C. That’s gas mark 7 and thermostat 7.5; in an air fryer, about 205 °C (405 °F).

Fan (convection) ovens cook hotter, so set them about 20 °C lower (25 °F in American recipes). Every oven runs a little differently — an oven thermometer shows the real temperature.
Good to know:
- 220 °C is for a short, fierce heat: Yorkshire puddings, scones, homemade pizza and extra-crisp roast potatoes.
- Preheat for at least 15–20 minutes. For Yorkshire puddings the oil in the tin should be smoking hot before the batter goes in.
- The air-fryer equivalent, about 205 °C, is above the maximum of most air fryers (usually 200 °C): use the top setting and check early.
